Blunt-tailed Snake Millipede Cylindroiulus punctatus (Leach, 1815): A common Millipede, usually found under logs or loose bark in wooded areas. There are several similar species, so identification is not easy.
This millipede, lacking a projecting telson, is superficially similar in appearance to the closely related Cylindroiulus britannicus (and also the scarce Cylindroiulus parisiorum and Cylindroiulus truncorum). Although they differ subtly in morphology, these four species are only reliably identified by dissection of adult specimens, ideally males.

The dramatic increase in soil degradation in the last few decades has led to the need to identify methods to define not only soil quality but also, in a holistic approach, soil health. In the past twenty years, indices based on living communities have been proposed alongside the already proven physical-chemical methods. Among them, some soil invertebrates have been included in monitoring.

Summary. Trapping of three species of diplopods, viz. Cylindroiulus punctatus (Leach), Tachypodoiulus niger (Leach) and Polydesmus angustus Latzel with pitfall traps in areas with known densities follows a definite mathematical relationship. The number of each species trapped is density dependent upto a lavel: beyond that the increased density levels are not proportionately reflected in the.

Light-detection provides incomparabaly rapid information at a range of time scales and, consequently, directional photoreception is found in almost every major metazoan clade. Conversely, a much smaller cohort have evolved sophisticated high resolution vision, which facillitates complex tasks via the detection of fast or small objects,. such as courtship and high-speed pursuit of prey.
